Ever find yourself bored during the summer with nothing to keep you interested? Let me introduce you to SYNC, a free summer audio book program for teens. SYNC will give away two complete audio book downloads a week - pairs of high interest titles, based on weekly themes. These titles are delivered through the free OverDrive app so you can download this app in advance on the device you plan to listen on.

Not convinced yet? Some of these titles include some of the required summer reading books that your teachers may assign or books they're teaching next year. You can make your assignment easier by simply listening to the book. In order to enjoy these services, all you have to do is:
  • First download the free OverDrive app
  • Sign-up to get notifications when the FREE audiobook downloads are available
  • You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com
  • Titles change every Thursday at 4am PT when the program is running

April is National Poetry Month! In honor of such a creative way of expression, your library will be hosting its first annual Book Spine Poetry Challenge! Some of you may be familiar with this challenge since many schools have participated in this activity before. For those of you who don't know how to play, the object of this challenge is to create a five line poem from five different book title spines (the outer portion of the book that faces outward when placed on a shelf). These five titles can be arranged in any order that create a poetic, emotional, or thought provoking feeling. You are welcome to use your library's collection or even your own. To enter this contest, you have to do one of the following:
  • Take a picture of your poem like the one shown below and print it and bring it in to the library
  • Post it on Instagram with #thehhsl #bookspinepoetry OR
  • Send your picture to library@husd.com
If you want a chance to win a prize, make sure you include your name when you send your picture! The deadline is April 26th so hurry on to your library to check out the different books available!!!
