Experience Based Learning Overview

Library assistants are critical, valuable members in helping to keep the library running smoothly. The skills gained through this work experience are transferable skills that you can take and cite on college or scholarship applications and take with you to other jobs or professions.

Minimum Expectations
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and library information. This includes but isn’t limited student contact information, titles/content checked out, what students owe, conversations that take place between students and adults, etc. If in doubt, ask!
  • Act with integrity and a professional demeanor (punctual, courteous, neat appearance, reliable, maintains confidentiality, accountable for actions, avoids using personal electronics during student tech period, etc.). Cursing, horseplay, and excessively loud voices on the job are not considered professional behavior.
  • Check for day’s priorities but use initiative. There is always something to be done; don’t wait to be told. Check task lists, look around, and ask if you’ve completed everything on the Tasks lists.
  • Help maintain the library as an organized, clean, welcoming space.
